STEM Concepts: Forces and Interactions; Weather and Climate
Air moves objects
This Storytime STEM-Pack includes all the materials you need to engage kids in a science activity that addresses the concept of force and motion, types of interactions, and weather and climate through exploring the phenomenon of air moving objects. The activity is launched by reading the popular children's book Kate Who Tamed the Wind with them, and then exploring how objects move when children blow on them with a straw. Included in this set, you'll find:
- Detailed instructions (i.e., lesson plan) for the learning activities
- Materials for twelve groups of two kids (straws, feathers, cotton balls, rocks, dried beans)
- A set of beautifully illustrated wind speed cards
- Word wall cards to use in context
- A copy of Kate Who Tamed the Wind by Liz Garton Scanlon
The entire activity takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. This STEM-Pack is suitable for grades PreK-2.
