In Blue Girl Adventures children use Bee-Bot robots to act out scenes from the book, The Boy and the  Wild Blue Girl, a story of Poul la Cour, inventor of the first windmill generating electricity. They also explore how wind can light an LED for the birthday house.  Children later program Girl-Bot to take fruit and vegetable harvests to community places on the mat. Reading  the story, We Planted a  Tree, children think about ways in which trees can help the world.  Doing addition and subtraction, children help Squirrel-Bot collect acorns for  the winter from the mat. The story, The  Water Princess sets up the engineering design challenge of designing, building, and testing a water filter to help the Water Princess.

The Storytime STEM-Pack The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind addresses energy and engineering design.  After reading the story, children engage in an engineering design  task, making a windmill, just as William did in the story.

The Storytime STEM-pack My Papi has a Motorcycle captures children’s attention as they follow Daisy when her Papi takes her on a motorcycle ride through town after work. They decide a good location for a solar panel and match natural resources with electricity generation, such as wind and a windmill. Children examine different community places and how people use electricity there, using mathematic practices to analyze electricity use of common appliances in the home and think about how to conserve electricity.
