We are a group of passionate educators from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Pittsburgh, who all previously taught in the classroom. For the last 14 years, funded by series of Math Science Partnership grants, we have worked with teachers, administrators, and informal educators to bring inquiry-based STEM instruction to kids. We are dedicated to providing all children with the opportunity for effective quality learning experiences that help them learn STEM concepts and skills, and set them up for success in life.
In 2013 we started to work with children’s librarians helping them to integrate STEM activities into their summer reading program. The children’s librarians asked us for activities that were fun and engaging for kids, easy to use, require minimal preparation time, and are aligned to research and standards. The idea for Storytime STEM-Packs was born. For the next year, based on interviews, field testing, and feedback from librarians, elementary teachers, STEAM teachers, Head Start teachers, parents and administrators, we refined our product. In August of 2016 we released our first 5 Storytime STEM-packs. With funding from our organization, a PA Math Science Partnership grant, and the PPG Foundation we are continuing to develop additional Storytime STEM-PACKS.
