STEM Concept: Energy and Engineering Design
Sunlight warms Earth’s surface.
Developing and Optimizing Design Solutions
This Storytime STEM-Pack consists of two parts and includes all the materials you need to engage kids in science and engineering activities that address energy and engineering design. After reading the story, children explore that sunlight warms with Earth with sun and shade cards and by experimenting with ice cubes and examining a playground photo for areas of hot (sun) and cold (shade). In Part 2 children engage in an engineering design task, creating shade for a slide on the playground. Included in this set, you'll find:
- Detailed instructions (i.e., lesson plan) for the learning activities
- 1 Facilitator Guide Part 1
- 6 Sun and Shade Cards
- 1 Playground Teacher Card
- 25 Playground Recording Sheets (black and white)
- Word Wall Cards to use in context
- 1 Facilitator Guide Part 2
- 1 Create shade for the slide card (one-sided)
- 1 Sunlight Warms the Earth Card (two-sided)
- 1 Engineering Design Card (two sided)
- Eight 4 oz white cups
- 24 red and blue pencils
